Pediatric integrative medicine is a field recognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics, yet many pediatricians remain unaware of its potential to provide expanded, evidence-based treatment options for children and adolescents.
Preventive care and anticipatory guidance are cornerstones of pediatric practice but incorporation of evidence-based integrative medicine practices are not emphasized in medical education.
This CME activity will help to close this knowledge gap and assist health care professionals in understanding how, when and what types of preventive integrative medicine approaches and interventions might be used in conjunction with conventional therapies to enhance pediatric care. This is important because an accruing number of effective, safe, non-pharmaceutical therapies and approaches are available for children yet not widely known or taught to clinicians.
Pediatricians who are updated on literature and clinical research in integrative-based anticipatory guidance will be better able to counsel families and be prepared to offer more comprehensive treatment options and effective preventive lifestyle recommendations.
